Thinking, Writing, Trying
My name is Zixiao Yang, but I would prefer Nick.

I recently graduated from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications with a master's degree in Magazine, News & Digital Journalism, and I received a bachelor's degree from Wake Forest University with a major in philosophy and minor in journalism.

Born and raised in China, I am trying to apply my perspective on the world and to share stories that I believe are worth telling, either through texts or videos.

My Work
This is a brief collection of my work over the years, including journalism stories, multimedia work and practicum projects.
SU's Asian Basketball team stories
I interviewed members of SU's Asian Basketball team and wrote two stories: one for the team and one profile of one of the members. I covered their games in the local league and with other Asian Basketball teams from other colleges as well as their struggles to get recognized by SU officially.
Feature video project
With three other group members, we created a feature video for Anthony Solt, the captain of Syracuse University's Counter-Strike varsity team. The project involved interviewing Solt, his teammate and his director; filming both the interviews and the team playing games; and finally editing the video.
Sorry for the limited quality of the video here.
On The Bandwagon podcast
I am a producer of the On The Bandwagon podcast, a student project on different fandoms. I was mainly involved in producing one of the episodes, "Outside the Box," the episode about the Buffalo Bandits. I wrote the written feature for that episode and filmed and created a social media reel for it.
Gen.G practicum training
I participated in a practicum in Seoul and worked as a marketing team trainee for Gen.G. With the marketing team I helped design the guidebook for the GGX, their new themed PC cafe. We also came up with and proposed a marketing campaign for the GGX.
Personally, I also made a short fun video highlighting practicum students' daily work.

Post production for a children's show
During my internship at a company affiliated to the China Central Television, I did post production for at least five episodes of a children's TV show for national broadcasting on CCTV Channel 14. My job included adding graphics, VFX and SFX, and coloring.
The show is entirely in Chinese.
